Marmara Island (Turkish: Marmara Adası; Greek: Προκόννησος Proconnesus) is a Turkish island in the Sea of Marmara.With an area of 117.8 km 2 (45.5 sq mi) it is the largest island in the Sea of Marmara and is the second largest island of Turkey after Gökçeada (older name in Turkish: İmroz; Greek: Ίμβρος Imvros).

"מאווי מרמרה" - הגדולה שבאוניות שהשתתפו במשט. הפליגה תחת דגל קומורו , נרכשה למען המשט לעזה על ידי ארגון IHH. " צ'לנג'ר 1 " - הפליגה תחת דגל ארצות הברית , תופעלה על ידי "תנועת עזה החופשית".

המשט לעזה היה משט אוניות, שיצא מטורקיה במאי 2010 לכיוון רצועת עזה. על פי הצהרת מארגניו ומשתתפיו מטרת המשט הייתה הומניטרית: להעביר ציוד הומניטרי לתושבי הרצועה, חרף הסגר על רצועת עזה, שהוטל לאחר השתלטות ארגון הטרור הפלסטיני חמאס, במהלך העימות חמאס-פת"ח ברצועת עזה, ולעורר את דעת הקהל העולמית לנושא. לעומת זאת, עמדת ישראל הייתה כי מטרתו האמיתית של המשט היא תמיכה בטרורהחמאס באמצעות התגרות שנועדה לקעקע את זכותה של ישראל להילחם בטרור ובדרך זאת לסייע למאבקו, מאחר שהמצב ההומניטרי ברצועת עזה טוב, בין השאר, משום שניתן להע…
